Each spring I anxiously await the arrival of some of my favorite subjects to photograph. One of them, the american white pelican, is always near or at the top of my priority list of things to photograph each summer. I love how candid they can be sometimes as they offer up unique moments not often shared by other bird species.
On this particular day last summer on the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge I came across a group of american white pelicans resting on a favorite roosting spot of theirs. One of them decided it was a great time to take a bath and hopped into the water and proceeded to do just that, take a bath. It frolicked and splashed around in the river water for a bit and made for what I think is a great image of the american white pelican in a candid moment. Such beautiful birds and so fun to photograph in moments like this.
